TIE Fighter: Total Conversion: One of the Best Star Wars Mods Just Got Even Better! [VIDEO]

The funny thing is that the developers want to raise the bar even higher so that future games will be even better.

If you love Star Wars games, you may regret that there aren’t more of them. You may also regret that some are too difficult to play again because they’re decades old and have compatibility issues. TIE Fighter: Total Conversion solves both problems. It’s a port of the 1994 TIE Fighter to the 1999 X-Wing Alliance, and it’s a significant update with its own modifications. It’s worth trying, even if you’ve never played the original. On Friday, a launch trailer and a detailed update video were released, announcing a significant update. In other words, there has never been a better time to get started.

As the update details explain, there have been significant changes. First, the game is now divided into separate installers for the Classic and Reimagined versions, which modify the original to varying degrees. Stability improvements have also been made, including the addition of new background process executable files. These files allow the game’s performance to keep pace with the development team’s ambitions. All concourse rooms (the game’s menus, which were redesigned in 2023) have been updated to HD quality with new graphics, animations, and other innovations. In the video, Angel, the mod developer, explains that every aspect has been significantly redesigned.

It took nearly a year to reach this point. Although the developers are confident that there will be bugs, issues, and other problems to address after the release, they finally released the mod. To reach this milestone, they had to rebuild the complete overhaul of the 2025 version of the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade mod twice, taking both versions into account for the new update. The future looks even more exciting. Upcoming updates include a cooperative mode and a third game version that will finalize the current balance, allowing future updates to improve upon it.

The scale of the work on these two projects is staggering.
