Assassin’s Creed: Ubisoft Talks About the Franchise’s Near Future! [VIDEO]

The French publisher has finally confirmed the long-standing rumors: a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is indeed coming.

Ubisoft officially confirmed the remake, titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, matching the leaked title from December. In a blog post titled “Assassin’s Creed: Into 2026” on the publisher’s website, the newly appointed head of franchise content, Jean Guesdon, reiterated in a short video that he has worked on the franchise for a long time. He added that part of his new role is maintaining clear and consistent communication about the company’s vision. The blog offers our first official glimpse of the remake and features the first official illustrations, along with some fresh news about other projects in development.

Despite finally confirming the Black Flag remake — a project that resulted in threats of legal action against the actor playing Edward Kenway for discussing arguably the industry’s worst-kept open secret for years — Ubisoft still can’t simply announce that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is on its way. The blog post doesn’t mention the project’s name. Instead, it makes an ironic comment: “Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it’s worth repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.’ Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon,” written above the official Black Flag Resynced artwork.

Regarding Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Guesdon said there will be no further information for the time being. The team he currently leads is taking time to realize its ambitious vision. He added that players can expect a unique, darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience set during a pivotal moment in history. Meanwhile, the multiplayer game Assassin’s Creed Invictus is being developed by the For Honor team at Ubisoft Montreal and will be a PvP experience — obviously not quite what the rumors suggested. The team is taking a testing and learning approach to development, which is new for the franchise’s multiplayer mode. Therefore, it will not be a revival of the multiplayer mode that appeared in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.

Another project mentioned by Ubisoft is Assassin’s Creed Jade, a mobile game currently in development. No specific information is available on its progress. Ubisoft added that several other projects are in various stages of development. Today, the 60 FPS update for Assassin’s Creed Unity will be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, and the game will be available for free on Xbox from April 2-6. Another AC-related update in the blog is a brief mention of the upcoming live-action TV series adaptation on Netflix. We will learn more about it soon. However, Ubisoft could have shown a little more of the remake.
