PlayStation 5 Pro: The New Version of PSSR Is Coming Soon to Two Remedy Games!

We’ll soon be able to experience the upscaler, which first appeared as a major surprise in Resident Evil Requiem, in two Remedy titles.

Alan Wake II and Control Ultimate Edition will soon join Resident Evil Requiem and other early adopters, as the two games developed by Remedy Entertainment will support the new version of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler. The developer announced on Bluesky that this update will let players explore the Oldest House and Bright Falls with a new level of visual fidelity. With the PSSR 2.0 announcement, Remedy shared initial details and promised noticeable improvements to image stability and motion clarity.

So far, we’ve only seen the new version of PlayStation 5 Pro PSSR in Resident Evil Requiem (which can easily be viewed as an early hint of the PlayStation 6). The results look highly promising, delivering meaningfully better image quality than the previous iteration of the technology. The differences should be easier to spot next week when Crimson Desert launches on March 19 (and this week Pearl Abyss published detailed system requirements, while also tossing Denuvo into the PC version at the last minute…).

In an early look at the PlayStation 5 Pro build, Digital Foundry technical experts showcased footage from the game’s current version, which still uses the previous PSSR release and leaves something to be desired in terms of overall image quality. Since Pearl Abyss has confirmed that its open-world game will use the new upscaler version to reach 4K output, it should be straightforward to compare pre-release footage with the launch build and see exactly where PSSR 2.0 delivers its biggest gains.

PSSR 2.0 could therefore bring a notable uplift to Remedy Entertainment’s games – provided you actually have Sony’s mid-generation console refresh.
