“If I Told You, I’d Have to Kill You” – The Expedition 33 Writer Is Very Excited About What Her Studio Is Preparing

The enormous success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has inevitably opened the door to speculation about the future of both the franchise and its French studio, Sandfall Interactive.

Although it is still too early to know what will come next, many players are already wondering what direction the team will take after the launch of their first RPG. For now, the studio prefers to maintain the mystery. During an interview at the Game Developers Conference, the game’s lead writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, avoided revealing any clues about the company’s future, although she acknowledged that she would love to be able to share it with fans.

When asked directly about the possible direction of the series — in the event that the French studio plans sequels, prequels, or spin-offs that continue its story — the writer responded with humor, but without offering concrete details. “I can’t tell you these things. If I did, I’d have to kill you,” she joked. Svedberg-Yen added that she would love to talk openly about the studio’s plans, since, as she admitted, she finds it hard to keep secrets and usually enjoys sharing information with others.

It’s Possible That, After Expedition 33, the Studio Will Look for New Ideas

Although her response was deliberately evasive, the fact that the studio prefers to remain silent on the subject has fueled speculation about the future of the saga. However, it is not even clear whether Sandfall Interactive will continue exploring the universe of the Peintresse, or whether, on the contrary, it will bet on new ideas and completely different worlds in its next project.

In fact, the game’s own creative director, Guillaume Broche, has already let slip in other interviews that the studio doesn’t want to get pigeonholed into a single genre or style. After the enormous success of Expedition 33, their intention is to maintain creative freedom and not feel tied to either the story, the aesthetics, or the mechanics that defined their first RPG. The team’s priority, according to the creative, is that their next project feels authentic and is developed with the same passion as the previous one.

Furthermore, Sandfall Interactive remains a relatively small studio, with around thirty developers, which also shapes their future plans. According to Broche, the team has no intention of growing massively or working on several games at the same time; their philosophy is to focus on one project, finish it, and then move on to the next.
