Star Wars: Galactic Racer has cleared at least one important hurdle before launch: it will not be confined to digital storefronts, because Secret Mode has now secured a global physical distribution deal with Plaion. That does not answer every platform-specific question yet, but it does confirm that Fuse Games’ racer is being prepared for a proper boxed retail presence as well.
Under the new agreement, Plaion will serve as the global physical distributor for Star Wars: Galactic Racer, taking charge of logistics, international distribution, and retail placement across major territories. That matters because physical releases are no longer the automatic default they once were, especially for newer titles that could easily have been pushed out as download-only products. Secret Mode is clearly signaling that it wants this game to exist beyond digital shelves and algorithm-driven storefront visibility. In other words, this is not being treated as a throwaway digital launch.
In the official statement, Plaion Partners CEO Craig McNicol said the deal reflects the company’s retail reach, its international teams, and its experience in the physical games business. Secret Mode publishing commercial director Alison Fraser added that the publisher sees Plaion as a trusted partner capable of helping the game achieve global success, and stressed confidence in the company’s experience and expertise. Taken together, the messaging is straightforward: Secret Mode wants Star Wars: Galactic Racer in stores, and it wants a partner that already knows how to move boxed product across key markets.
The more complicated question is which versions will actually receive a traditional physical edition. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is due out this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but that does not mean every platform will necessarily get the same treatment. On PC, a genuine disc-based release feels extremely unlikely, given how thoroughly that market has moved away from physical media. At best, that side of the release would probably amount to a boxed code solution. The Xbox Series X|S situation also remains uncertain, because recent industry patterns have shown more than once that Microsoft’s platform can be the one left out when publishers start trimming physical plans. At this stage, PlayStation 5 looks like the safest bet for a conventional boxed edition, but no detailed platform breakdown has been announced yet.
Even with those caveats, the announcement is still a good sign. Secret Mode is not treating the physical market as dead weight, and for a Star Wars title that is not a trivial decision. This is the kind of brand that still has an audience willing to buy something not just to play it, but to actually keep it on a shelf. Right now, that much seems to have been understood perfectly well by everyone involved.
