This deleted content features a character that supports the darkest ending in FromSoftware’s game.

A modder named Transquility restored the merchant NPC quest for Kalé in the 2022 game via Nexus Mods. Originally, the merchant character who appears at the beginning of the game promised much more, and he could have been a standout element of the game, in our opinion. Spoilers for Elden Ring and details of the cut quest follow, so read at your own risk.

In the released version of Elden Ring, Kalé doesn’t have much to do. He’s memorable because he’s the second NPC we encounter, and he serves as an introduction to the extensive questline involving the Wolf Knight Blaidd and Ranni. However, shortly after Elden Ring’s release, data miner Sekiro Dubi revealed that Kalé was originally intended to be the driving force behind the hidden Frenzied Flame ending, where you set out to exterminate all of humanity. In the final game, this role is filled by Shabriri Grapes Hyetta. Actor Nabil Elouahabi delivers an impressive performance as the friendly merchant who sinks into despair and rage when he realizes the harm Marika and her Golden Order have caused his people. Ultimately, he prompts the player to equip the Frenzied Flame and take revenge on their behalf.

This mission more clearly explains the fate of those buried alive beneath Leyndell. This background information is hidden in the item descriptions in the final game, in typical FromSoftware fashion. It also provides a reason for achievement-oriented players to seek the Frenzied Flame ending, not merely for the sake of evil or out of curiosity. Melina’s plea not to meet the Three Fingers takes on a different meaning during the conversation with Kalé, whose rage and outrage over the fate of his people undermine Melina’s optimistic humanism.

Transquility has reimplemented the mission, making it fully playable. Using Elden Ring mods is also simple.
