Minecraft Dungeons 2 is official, and the wait will not be long: Mojang has confirmed that the sequel to its popular action RPG will launch in fall 2026.
Minecraft has spent years proving that it can survive far beyond its original formula, but not every spin-off has been received with the same level of affection. While Minecraft Legends never fully won over the community, Minecraft Dungeons became one of the better-loved side projects by turning the blocky universe into a fun, accessible cooperative action RPG. Now that branch is getting a sequel.
Announced during Minecraft Live 2026, Minecraft Dungeons 2 is still keeping many of its cards close to the chest, but the most important details are already out. The game is set to launch in fall 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through both Steam and the Microsoft Store. It has also been confirmed for day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
The Dungeons Branch Is Not Going Anywhere
The sequel is once again being developed by Mojang Studios and Double Eleven, which means the same core creative partnership from the first game is back in charge. Based on the initial description, players will once again gather a group of heroes to face the forces of evil through high-stakes encounters, new locations, and what appears to be a darker overall tone. From what has been shown so far, the sequel seems ready to push the mood further into fantasy adventure territory rather than simply repeating the lighter feel of the original.
So far, there has been no detailed breakdown of new mechanics, major gameplay changes, or an exact release date, which makes this reveal more of a strong announcement than a full presentation. Even so, it feels safe to expect that the game will keep the accessible combat, light exploration, and approachable cooperative structure that made the first title work so well, only on a bigger and more ambitious scale. It would also make sense for the game to follow the same expansion-heavy path as the original, since the first Minecraft Dungeons received six DLC packs in a relatively short time.
