Resident Evil Requiem: You Can Now Play It in VR! [VIDEO]

Although this isn’t official VR support, you can still play Capcom’s latest game this way. It has been an absolute hit, and given the failure of PlayStation VR2, it probably never will be official.

Want to play Resident Evil 9 in virtual reality? I’m sure some people do, and we’re not here to judge. Maybe someone is just that dedicated, and there’s nothing wrong with that. In any case, a fan-made solution has emerged to meet this demand. You can now download a mod that lets you step into the shoes of Grace Ashcroft. She’s an FBI office worker so lost in the situation that, when she returns, she’ll practically be suffering from decompression sickness – but that’s her problem.

Resident Evil Requiem is enjoyable even with the default camera settings: first-person view for Grace and third-person view for Leon. It’s worth mentioning that these settings can be changed in the menu. Seeing things through Grace’s eyes was pretty scary, especially when she spotted the shadowy outline of something huge creeping out of the hole in the ceiling at the end of the hallway she had to get through.

After a while, returning to the lighthearted exterior to watch Leon S. Kennedy’s bulging biceps (the “S” undoubtedly refers to his T-shirt size) as he kills dozens of zombies and makes a witty remark is simply an ecstatic relief. It’s the perfect formula for a franchise that has often struggled to reconcile its survival horror roots with the silliness of action movies. We’d like to mention again that Resident Evil turned 30 yesterday!

RE9VR is already available for download. You’ll also need ViGEmBus and REFramework. To solve the computer puzzles, however, you’ll have to take off the headset and play in flat-screen mode. Otherwise, you can experience Resident Evil Requiem as if the events were happening to you. Although this isn’t officially supported, maybe Capcom will implement it as well, following Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil 8: Village.

She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
