The Polish studio has confirmed that a new “project” is coming in 2026, but all signs point to a traditional marketing campaign rather than a surprise release.
After numerous rumors and fan theories, CD Projekt RED has finally confirmed that it is preparing to release a new “project” in 2026. The company has not yet shared any specific details about what kind of experience is being developed alongside The Witcher IV, Cyberpunk 2, and the rest of its active projects, but players are already dreaming that this could indeed be that long-rumored new The Witcher 3 DLC. There is, however, one detail the studio was quick to clarify: the community should not expect a surprise launch.
Rumors Point to a The Witcher 3 DLC
The new detail came from an investor meeting, where CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski answered a number of questions about the company’s financial position and the status of its upcoming projects. One investor specifically wanted to know whether the mysterious project planned for 2026 would be supported by a longer marketing campaign lasting weeks or months, or whether a shadowdrop-style release could also be possible.
Based on Nowakowski’s answer, CD Projekt would rather stick to its usual approach. He said that “everything is possible”, but the studio’s experience and preferences, especially considering the kind of games it makes, lean toward longer marketing campaigns because they tend to work better than a sudden launch tied to an event or conference. In other words, if new content really is on the way, it will most likely be introduced through a proper promotional buildup rather than dropped out of nowhere the same day it is announced.
The rumors still point toward a new The Witcher 3 DLC. That would be an unusual move for CD Projekt, but Geralt’s adventure remains hugely popular to this day, and the upcoming arrival of The Witcher IV could justify adding new content that helps bridge the gap between the 2015 game and the new chapter starring Ciri. The company has not confirmed any of this yet, but some analysts believe the financial thresholds tied to CD Projekt’s incentive program could be easier to reach with a release like this. Some estimates have even gone as far as suggesting that the rumored content could arrive as early as May.
If that is really what is coming, then at least one thing is now clear: players should not expect a shadowdrop. CD Projekt seems much more likely to build anticipation slowly with a structured marketing campaign first.
