Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide: Is This Samsung’s Answer to the iPhone Fold?

TECH NEWS – The South Korean tech giant is preparing another foldable smartphone, though it is far from certain this one will truly turn heads. If anything, its first leaked renders make it look more oddly squat than irresistibly premium.

Samsung’s planned response to the Apple iPhone Fold, officially called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, has now moved from rumor and concept into something more tangible: new CAD renders show off the device’s chunky design in unprecedented detail. In collaboration with OnLeaks, Android Headlines recently published one of the first CAD renders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, revealing a strangely stout form factor. The foldable smartphone is expected to debut this summer alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

According to the CAD renders, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to measure 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9 mm when unfolded and 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8 mm when folded. For comparison, the expected dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 are 158.4 x 72.8 x 9 mm when folded and 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5 mm when unfolded. As those numbers make clear, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide would be noticeably thicker than its taller sibling, which would stand a huge 34 mm taller than the Wide model. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is said to feature a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner display.

Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will apparently come with a dual-camera setup. On the inside, the foldable device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is also tipped to include a 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W wired charging support. Finally, just as expected with the standard Fold 8, the crease on the Wide version’s inner display is also said to be noticeably smaller.

With all that in mind, we would rather not think too hard about how much Samsung is ultimately going to charge for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. Foldable phones are already expensive enough, and a broader premium version is unlikely to make things any cheaper.
