Why Ruin the Surprise? An Unexpected Character Is Coming to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Fans Think Nintendo Blew the Reveal

MOVIE NEWS – If you want to watch Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie with as few spoilers as possible, you may want to stop reading right now. Nintendo has officially confirmed the appearance of a new character who does not come from the Super Mario universe.

If you are planning to see Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie as soon as it hits theaters, then staying off social media right now is probably a smart move. Nintendo has officially confirmed the arrival of a new character, and as usually happens in cases like this, users immediately jumped on the reveal and began sharing the only image released to announce it. Not everyone is thrilled, though, because many fans believe Nintendo has effectively spoiled what could have been one of the movie’s most memorable surprises.

Spoiler warning really does apply here. The internet is already full of images of the confirmed character, but plenty of players would obviously rather experience that moment for the first time in a theater. So if you want to see Mario and company’s new cosmic adventure on the big screen without having it spoiled beforehand, this is probably the point where you should bail out.

Nintendo Is No Longer Hiding It

No more dancing around it: Nintendo released a new poster for Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie, confirming that Fox McCloud, the iconic Star Fox character, will appear in Mario’s journey through the stars. That is exciting news for Nintendo fans in general, because it is clear proof that Mario movies can make room for other major figures from the company’s wider universe. It is no surprise, then, that some fans are already dreaming about the possible arrival of Falco Lombardi, Peppy Hare, or even Wolf O’Donnell down the road.

The speculation goes further than that, too. Since Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie is already pulling in one of Nintendo’s classic space franchises, many players are now imagining cameos from characters across other series as well, something not too far removed from what a Smash Bros. crossover on the big screen might look like. That theory has only gained more fuel because Nintendo also teased ROB and the Pikmin in a recent post on X. From that angle, Fox may be only the first taste of what the company is preparing for the full movie.

Exciting Tease or Straight-Up Spoiler?

As mentioned at the start, though, a large number of fans have criticized Nintendo’s decision to reveal Fox in advance, arguing that it ruins the kind of surprise that would have landed much harder in theaters. The official post featuring the new poster quickly filled with angry reactions. “Why would you want to spoil this?” wrote Rasen. Plainrock124 added: “What the heck, movies are supposed to surprise us with things like this, not post spoilers before the premiere.”

On the other hand, plenty of users are delighted by the news and are already imagining Fox McCloud bursting into Mario’s adventure with a perfectly timed “Do a barrel roll!”. So the debate is already set: for some, this is smart hype-building, while for others it is a totally unnecessary spoiler. Either way, Nintendo has definitely managed to get people talking about the movie.
