Death Stranding 2: On the Beach: Has the PC Port Helped It Reach 2 Million Sales?

Kojima Productions’ PC conversion arrived recently, and Hideo Kojima’s latest title may already have crossed another important sales milestone because of it. Fresh estimates suggest the PC launch did not just bring in solid numbers on its own, but also gave the PlayStation 5 version another welcome sales push.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach recently launched on PC after first debuting on PlayStation 5 last June. It was a port that many PC fans of the original game had been waiting for, and according to Alinea Analytics, that demand showed up quickly in the initial sales data. The firm estimates that the game has sold 425,000 copies on Steam so far, and when that figure is added to the 1.6 million copies sold on PlayStation 5, the title appears to have moved past the 2 million mark overall.

The PC launch did not just help the Steam version either. It also gave the console release a fresh boost, because the PlayStation 5 edition received a discount around the same time the port arrived. According to Alinea Analytics, that combination produced an even bigger spike in unit sales than the previous discounts Sony had run. In other words, the PC version seems to have worked both as a new revenue stream and as a renewed marketing push for the game across platforms.

Steam has already carved out a serious share

That makes for a very strong start, especially because the PC port appears to have revived interest among players who may not have jumped in at launch. For many of them, this is effectively the game’s true release date, since they would never have played it on console in the first place. Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliot says the Steam version already accounts for 21% of total units sold, which is a notable chunk in such a short period of time.

The revenue picture is strong as well. Estimates suggest that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has generated more than $110 million on PlayStation 5, while the Steam version has brought in another $32.6 million. Once the Epic Games Store is also factored in, it becomes fairly safe to say the game has now pushed beyond $150 million in total revenue.

Alinea Analytics has also published fresh numbers for other titles. Bungie’s new extraction shooter Marathon has reportedly reached 1.2 million sales, while MegaCrit’s sequel Slay the Spire 2 was previously tracked at 4.6 million and may now have reached 5 million according to the firm’s latest newsletter. That broader context makes it clear the company is tracking major releases aggressively right now, and Death Stranding 2 is holding up very well within that group.
