Capcom is not only working on paid DLC for its Monster Hunter spin-off, but also preparing a free content expansion. Arriving this summer, the update will introduce Royal Monsters, brutally powerful enemies clearly meant to push high-level players into much tougher fights.
This summer, Capcom will release a free update for Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection that adds extremely powerful creatures known as Royal Monsters, as confirmed by producer Ryozo Tsujimoto in a video message. The goal is obvious: the update is meant to bring a much harsher layer of combat into the game, giving endgame players something far more demanding than the standard progression path or collection-focused play.
According to Tsujimoto, Riders above level 90 will need to prepare carefully and bring their strongest Monsties and best strategies if they want to defeat these monsters. He said the team hopes the update will genuinely push players to their limits. Alongside this summer release, development on the paid DLC, Additional Side Story: Rudy, is also progressing well, and Capcom is even considering bringing that expansion forward if possible.
Capcom is following the formula it has been using for years
The company has made this kind of support strategy a regular habit. Most of Capcom’s major titles do not stop at paid DLC, but also continue to grow through free content updates. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection may not be a mainline Monster Hunter entry – that role belongs to Monster Hunter Wilds – but Capcom clearly is not treating this spin-off as an afterthought either. It is giving the game the kind of extra support that can keep player interest alive well beyond launch.
The bigger question is how much long-term interest this more story-driven monster-hunting spin-off will ultimately hold, because it is still a side branch of the franchise. Even so, the arrival of Royal Monsters is the sort of addition that could immediately catch the attention of players who want something much harsher after the smoother early and midgame rhythm. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is already available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
