Tomb Raider: Sophie Turner’s Injury Could Hit the Prime Video Series Hard

MOVIE NEWS – The idea of a 2027 arrival had started to feel comfortably realistic, but if the darker projections hold up, it may be time to put that expectation on ice.

Filming on Prime Video’s new live-action Tomb Raider series began several weeks ago, but production has now been paused, and there is still no clear answer on when it will properly restart. The reason is an injury suffered by Sophie Turner, who is playing Lara Croft, and reports suggest the recovery period could end up being either relatively brief or much more disruptive.

The official messaging has been cautious. According to the production, Turner suffered a minor injury, and filming has been paused as a precaution to give her time to recover. That “as soon as possible” studio phrasing, however, is doing a lot of work here, because behind-the-scenes reporting has pointed to a much wider window of uncertainty, and that is obviously not ideal for a series Amazon and MGM would like to keep on a firm track.

Reports indicate that Turner may have aggravated an earlier back problem during production, which makes the studio’s caution easy to understand. This is not the kind of show where the lead can simply coast through dialogue scenes and call it a day, but an action-adventure survival series built around physical demands, whether or not the star performs every stunt personally.

Tomb Raider is only one of several video game-related projects Prime Video has in motion following the success of Fallout. A live-action God of War is in the works, while Mass Effect and Life is Strange adaptations are also in development, so Lara Croft’s return is part of a much larger push that Amazon clearly sees as strategically important.
