Time-traveling Nazis have taken over the world, and apparently nobody cares. So it looks like it falls to us – use inventive weapons, build custom gear, and kill them all. Quite a few Nazis show up in the game, but only a handful make it through the reveal trailer in one piece. Here is the full rundown of what happens to the time-hopping Wehrmacht during the 40-second clip: getting smacked in the head with a smartphone, getting flipped off, getting kicked, getting kicked to death, being shot with a Luger, being shot with a rifle – single-barrel -, being shot with a rifle – double-barrel -, being shot with a Tommy gun, being torn apart with a machine gun, being blown up with a bazooka, being crushed by an absurdly oversized soccer ball, and being shot by heat-seeking bees.
The game is called Too Many F*cking Nazis, and the culture warriors absolutely lost their minds, swarming the game’s forum like they had been summoned by a swastika-shaped Bat-Signal. The posts that followed carried a strong “please don’t quote me in the paper saying I’m mad” energy, serving up gems like “My wife’s boyfriend LOVES this game” – yes, that kind of cheating joke -, questions about when they will get to play Too Many F*cking Commies, demands that players should also be allowed to kill Black, Asian, or disabled Nazis alongside white ones, and calls for Steam users to report games that supposedly incite real-world violence, because “Nazi” is now apparently just a slur constantly thrown at conservatives, white people, right-wingers, or anyone else who does not fully embrace progressive politics.
A developer post on the forums does at least offer a little more context. The game is still in a fairly early state, and most of the footage comes from test environments featuring only basic enemies. The developers are planning a broader range of targets – in terms of the Nazis’ size and shape – whom players will be able to kick, flip off, shoot with rifles, blow up with bazookas, or murder with bees.
We are not saying Too Many F*cking Nazis is about to become one of the finest examples of the boomer shooter revival, but to be honest, we do not think it really needs to be.
