We should learn more about the game soon, and this gameplay video is a significant step in that direction.
Cold Symmetry and Playstack released the first glimpse of Mortal Shell 2 gameplay. It is the sequel to the developer’s first Souls-like game, which was released in 2020. The sequel retains the unique gameplay mechanics that distinguish it from other titles in the genre. The different Shells determine our playstyle. As we can see in the new video, many elements of the game have been significantly improved. The world of Mortal Shell 2 appears much more expansive than in the first game. There is more to explore and more space to maneuver if you feel cornered and need to approach the situation from a new angle.
The animations and combat also appear smoother and more fluid than in the original Mortal Shell, though we won’t know for sure until we can try the upcoming sequel for ourselves. The video below showcases three new Shells that players can use, each with melee and ranged attacks. Some of these attacks seem out of place, such as a weapon that resembles a fantasy-themed machine gun in a world of swords and monsters.
Mortal Shell 2 was originally unveiled at last year’s Summer Game Fest. While the official release date is still unknown, the game is scheduled for release in 2026. Summer Game Fest 2026 is just around the corner, as evidenced by the fact that publishers like Xbox have already begun scheduling their major SGF presentations.
Now that we’ve seen Mortal Shell 2‘s gameplay, hopefully an official release date announcement and the game’s launch are not far away. It’s possible they’ll announce the release date at Summer Game Fest.
One thing is certain: the target platforms are the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series, and the PC. It doesn’t seem likely that the game will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2.
