iPhone Fold: Has Mass Production of Apple’s Foldable Smartphone Begun?

TECH NEWS – The Cupertino-based tech giant may be causing a few sleepless nights with its new device.

Designing the iPhone Fold was reportedly a complex task for Apple, particularly in achieving a wrinkle-free front display. However, according to the latest rumors, the tech giant has reached a new milestone. The company’s first foldable smartphone is reportedly already in mass production at Foxconn, signaling to competitors that a new player is entering the market and the competition is about to heat up.

Numerous images have circulated on Twitter showcasing the iPhone Fold’s wider aspect ratio. The design is intended to mimic a book to maximize screen real estate and improve portability. However, the outer casing would not be as challenging as the inner display. While other manufacturers have tried to minimize the crease, it remains visible from certain angles, especially when light hits the panel directly. According to a tweet by Majin, Apple has overcome this hurdle, offering a crease-free experience with the iPhone Fold. However, it remains to be seen how well the technology is implemented. Previous reports have claimed that the Cupertino-based company had reached this wrinkle-free milestone. At other times, it was reported that Apple had encountered problems and resorted to using Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) of varying thicknesses to resolve the issue.

According to rumors, the company is applying a polyimide (PI) film to the top of the UTG to improve scratch resistance. While this increases the total cost of the components, it provides significantly better protection. Since Majin is a more reliable source than most, we are inclined to believe that the iPhone Fold is already in mass production. According to Momentary Digital, which is active on Weibo, production of Apple’s first foldable smartphone was scheduled for July. However, it’s possible that Apple decided to accelerate the schedule because each iPhone Fold unit must undergo rigorous testing, especially of the inner display, before being packaged and sold worldwide. This process takes longer than testing traditional iPhones, suggesting that there won’t be enough stock when the first shipments arrive.

Perhaps early 2027 will ensure that enough devices are available to the general public, even if the iPhone Fold is expensive, with a base price of $2,000. Nevertheless, with an estimated 20 million units sold worldwide, Apple will pose a massive challenge to competitors who have been trying to gain ground in this category for years but have so far been unsuccessful.
