Will Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Miss the 30th Anniversary?

The Tomb Raider remake may miss its 2026 release date, which would be disappointing!

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, one of two new titles announced by developer Crystal Dynamics during The Game Awards 2025, is a complete reimagining of the original game. It is a complete reimagining of the original Tomb Raider game. According to the game’s director, its combat and exploration systems have been entirely overhauled. Originally planned for release in 2026, the game’s release date is now uncertain. A Twitter user named RaidersSociety claims the game has been delayed to 2027, with February being the new release window.

This insider has repeatedly provided accurate information about the Tomb Raider franchise prior to official announcements in the past. Another noteworthy factor—independent of RaidersSociety—is that this news comes shortly after Crystal Dynamics’ fourth round of layoffs in the past twelve months. The studio claims to be fully committed to developing both Tomb Raider games, but that commitment doesn’t mean they won’t be delayed.

The least surprising outcome would be for Crystal Dynamics to confirm the game’s delay from 2026, considering the studio’s downsizing of its staff four times in the past twelve months (which sounds ridiculous, given that the team essentially does this every quarter). Game delays are extremely common and widely accepted as a natural part of development, regardless of whether the game is being made by a small team or a major AAA developer.

Nevertheless, it would be unfortunate if Legacy of Atlantis were not released this year, as it would miss the opportunity to launch on the 30th anniversary of the Tomb Raider series, which began in 1996. It is baffling that they were unable to maintain their headcount because this is detrimental to development in every way.
