Koshmar: The Last Reverie Looks Like an Action Adventure Trapped Between Dreams and Madness on PC and Consoles [VIDEO]

Purple Ray Studio has officially revealed Koshmar: The Last Reverie, a fast-paced third-person single-player action-adventure that blends RPG systems with roguelite elements. The story follows Violet, a teenage girl from a small town whose lucid dreaming ability allows her to enter other people’s nightmares while a strange sleeping sickness begins to threaten reality itself.

 

The Polish developer’s second game appears to be built around a world shaped by dreams and nightmares rather than simple dark fantasy imagery. According to the studio, Koshmar: The Last Reverie will combine fast combat, deep world-building, and systems in which player choices affect not only battles, but also Violet’s perception of the world and the way the world responds to her. The central idea is that duality is not just part of the mood, but one of the foundations of the design. Through combat style, progression, and the way Violet is guided through the story, players will apparently push her closer either to dreams or to nightmares.

Violet lives in a bleak, colorless world, and lucid dreaming becomes her only route of escape from that reality. Through that ability, she can move not only through her own dreams, but also through the nightmares of others. The situation becomes far more dangerous when those nightmares stop remaining confined to sleep and begin bleeding into the waking world. That forces Violet to descend deeper into darkness, risking her sanity in order to protect the people affected by the sleeping plague.

 

The Duality and Reality of Koshmar: The Last Reverie

 

One of the game’s core systems is built around the constant interaction between the waking world and the dream world. As players move through Violet’s physical reality, explore new places, meet new characters, or enter the nightmare realms of those struck by the sleeping sickness, those choices shape the way she sees the world and the way the world sees her in return. Weapon styles tied either to Dream or Nightmare paths unlock different resources. Those resources can either amplify dream-like delusions or drag Violet toward deeper madness when she returns to reality.

How far the player sinks into these Delusion or Madness states is said to have both mechanical and visual consequences. Violet’s appearance can change, and the world itself may begin to present differently to her. At the same time, combat weapons and abilities are unlocked according to playstyle. That means the system is not just cosmetic, but tied directly to progression, survivability, and the overall tone of the experience.

Koshmar: The Last Reverie is set to include several variations of adrenaline-driven action combat built around Violet’s abilities, upgrades, skills, and other forms of development. Platforming and puzzle-solving will also play an important role in a fully original world that shifts between surreal and somber environments. Players will choose between Dream- and Nightmare-inspired combat styles, and those decisions may have consequences that affect the real world. The developers are also promising multiple endings shaped by player choice and other variable factors.

Replayable Nightmare Rifts will be another key part of the structure, bringing the game’s roguelite side into focus. According to the studio, these sections can either sharpen or dull Violet’s mental state, making them both challenge spaces and extensions of the larger psychological systems. Purple Ray Studio also highlights hand-painted environments, strong storytelling, and deep world-building as major pillars of the project. Koshmar: The Last Reverie is currently in active development for PC and consoles, with more precise information about release timing and platform availability to be shared later.
