TECH NEWS – When two pieces of news related to the South Korean tech giant, neither of them particularly positive and both tied to Samsung’s smartphones, surface in a single day, it probably isn’t a coincidence.
None of Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices are breaking the mold, perhaps with the exception of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and based on the latest CAD renders, it appears the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be no exception. OnLeaks has published the first CAD renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, which show a device measuring 166.8 mm x 75.4 mm x 6.6 mm when unfolded and 85.4 mm x 75.4 mm x 13.2 mm when folded. This means that the Flip 8 is just under half a millimeter thinner than the Flip 7 when folded.
In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 features a 4.1-inch cover screen and a 6.9-inch inner display, which appears to be an exact replica of the Flip 7, with dual rear cameras and an LED flash on the cover panel. As for the launch, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 8 between July 7 and 9, and it will hit stores between July 22 and 25. As for the price, it’s best not to even think about it.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 lineup has already made headlines today. We’ve reported that the South Korean company is deliberately using underhanded tactics to boost sales of this model, specifically by downgrading certain features on older devices even though those devices are still capable of supporting them today. This is a terrible example of forced obsolescence, and the fact that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 hasn’t changed a bit in appearance compared to its predecessor paints a picture of a company that couldn’t care less.
Samsung does all this while raking in such huge profits in the memory chip segment that it could theoretically cover any stagnation or decline for quite a while… but unfortunately, this is just another ugly story of late-stage capitalism.
