However, this Metro 4 is not the one that is supposedly set to be unveiled next week.
The Metro universe has been in an uproar over the past few days thanks to two major announcements. First, reports surfaced that Metro 4 – this is not the game’s official title – will be unveiled next week, ending six years of community speculation and guesswork. Then, claims surfaced online that a massive 120 GB data dump had leaked, revealing an unfinished version of Metro 4 that was shelved four years ago. Metro fans immediately began sifting through the leak’s contents, which reportedly included more than 20 compressed files containing maps, dialogue, character models, and more.
On Reddit, a user shared images believed to be of Metro 4, taken from the version of the game that 4A Games scrapped in 2022. According to the post: “The game was about Hunter and took place from January 2033 to December 2034. It was a fully open-world game with a crafting system and alternative ammo types. You had an upgradeable NBC suit, and Khan and Bourbon were main characters, too. There were rumors in different stations that you could disprove, such as the idea that alcohol numbs radiation and that females wearing NBC suits shoot more quickly than males.”
Metro 4s canceled 2022 ver just leaked online

The subreddit’s moderation team closed the thread because users had begun sharing links to the leaked content, which violates the rule prohibiting the sharing of pirated software, cracks, and torrents. As the investigation into the alleged leak unfolded, additional information was uncovered. The game was going to take place in both the subway tunnels and the “surface world.” Artyom would not have been a playable character, but rather, a background character. The game would have followed the plot of the book Metro 2034, fully reviving the character of Hunter. Players would have been able to explore multiple factions and stations, including Nazi and Red stations. The bullet-based economy would have been replaced with a barter-based economy.
As with any leak of this nature, it’s important to treat all information with caution, especially since the Discord server that shared the content appears to have been shut down to prevent further dissemination. However, what we do know is that 4A Games has been developing the new Metro game since at least its 2020 announcement. This occurred just under a year after the release of Metro Exodus. It’s reasonable to assume that the leaked information is credible, given that several screenshots and a video have surfaced online and on social media. However, it’s important to emphasize that, even if true, the project was canceled years ago.
Rumors have circulated recently that Metro 4 will be unveiled next week, so the truth may come to light soon. We’ll come back to this in today’s news.
