It took the developers some time to resolve a few issues, but they did their best.
The Planet Crafter is a survival game that transcends the traditional boundaries of the genre. Instead of trying to stay alive by building campfires, hunting animals, or crafting a pickaxe from our backpack, we shape the world to our needs and terraform entire planets to make them habitable for humans. After a long period in early access, The Planet Crafter was released in 2024 and is already among the highest-rated games on Steam. However, it seems that the development team, Miju Games, was still not entirely satisfied with the experience. They recently released the game’s 2.0 update, which improves every aspect of the game.
On Steam, the developers wrote that they wanted to take some time to fix a few things so that the game would be as beautiful and enjoyable as possible for both new and returning players. The update’s most significant addition is a new biome for players to explore on Prime, the main world of The Planet Crafter. Miju Games isn’t revealing too many details about this biome, presumably to preserve the element of surprise. This new feature comes alongside improvements to other biomes, as well as new decorations and portals that help players traverse the world more quickly.
Miju Games has carried out a visual overhaul of The Planet Crafter, improving the skyboxes, terrain, vegetation, and water shaders. While this is not absolutely necessary since The Planet Crafter is about so much more than just its appearance, the game has always been slightly lower quality than its competitors. Thus, this small revamp is welcome. One interesting new feature is that celestial bodies in terraformed solar systems, such as the moons orbiting Prime added in a recent update, evolve in real time. This allows us to sit back and watch the results of our work spread throughout the system. Our rover now has a jetpack, making it easier to navigate between rocks and ravines. New craftable items include cabinets, arcade machines, vending machines, showers, and toilets. All of this comes with a much longer list of improvements, balance changes, and bug fixes.
Coinciding with the update, The Planet Crafter is available for 50% off as part of Steam’s midweek sale. The extraterrestrial terraforming game can be purchased for €/$12 with the discount until April 20.
