Lords of the Fallen: PS5 Pro Support and Updates for the First Game; The Sequel Is in the Works

While this first installment is not the same as 2014’s Lords of the Fallen, there are still updates planned for it beyond support for the half-generation console.

Hexworks, the developers of Lords of the Fallen, have explained how the PlayStation 5 Pro patch will tweak the game’s performance: “The PlayStation 5 Pro version of Lords of the Fallen allows players to experience the game with a 40% increase in pixel density over the base PlayStation 5 console, resulting in a sharper image and finer detail. Performance Mode delivers rich visual detail at 4K (upscaled from 1440p) with a fluid 60 frames per second, sharper detail in the distance, and refined textures on characters and environments. For those who prioritize visual fidelity, Quality Mode runs at native 4K, showcasing intricate visuals across the dual realms of Axiom and Umbral at a steady 30fps.”

Essentially, they’re doing the obligatory thing you’d expect on the PlayStation 5 Pro, which still has a more powerful GPU than the base version. Interestingly, Lords of the Fallen will continue to receive updates and improvements based on community feedback. This is surprising because it is already official that Hexworks is working on the sequel, which is scheduled for release in 2026.

Speaking of a sequel, Gamereactor has an interview with Javier García Lajara, Hexworks’ art director, who talked about this and the first part: “In one month we reached one million copies sold, and after that we worked on several updates and post-launch content for several months. We are around a million and a half, more or less. I don’t have the final numbers, but it should be that way. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a perfect launch, especially on PC. The PC market is full of different specifications. You can run the game on a pretty powerful machine or you can have a low-end PC and our game has to run on both platforms, so we tried to fix all those issues after launch and we spent several months doing that.

I think we did it and the game is now a completely new experience. I think it’s worth trying again if you had problems at launch. For Lords of the Fallen 2, we are not only keeping the dual realm mechanic, we are improving it and leveraging what we do there. I can’t say too much about it. Epic has jumped on board to help fund the project, and of course we are using Unreal Engine 5,” Lajara said.

So the studio is not abandoning the first part while developing the sequel.
