We’re still hours away from this year’s The Game Awards (it starts at 4:30pm Pacific), but the heat is already on for the last major video game event of the year.

The gaming industry is gearing up for Geoff Keighley’s event, and there are some big surprises in store. VGC editor-in-chief Andy Robinson has already talked about it, and now Bloomberg editor Jason Schreier has joined the party. He also appeared on the Kinda Funny podcast, and in the latest episode he had this to say about what to expect at this year’s The Game Awards:

“What can I say without getting in trouble…so I know about a couple of announcements that are going to be there, and they would qualify as big announcements. That said, big announcements are games that won’t be out for years. I think there’s a good chance that you’ll see a teaser trailer or two for a game that’s like 2026 or even later in many cases. I mean, yeah, there are at least two things that will make you guys react like holy sh*t, like I can’t believe this thing is here. At least two things, I’ll tell you that,” Schreier said.

He cited two examples of the kind of announcement to look out for: the reportedly troubled Wonder Woman from Monolith Productions (Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War) and China’s NetEase-owned Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse. Big games, big announcements, but we’re still years away from release, but they could still get people’s attention.

Will Bloodborne be one of them? No: Schreier on Reddit has calmed the mood. That leaves the ShadPS4 emulator, which is developing at a very fast pace. By the way, two games from Take-Two are sure to make an appearance at The Game Awards, Borderlands 4 from Gearbox and Mafia: The Old Country, the prequel to the franchise from Hangar 13.

This year’s Game Awards will last approximately three and a half hours…
