Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for mods, where some creations are free, but certain bundles can reportedly run into the hundreds of dollars.
Rockstar has officially introduced its own mod marketplace aimed at “every server and every player,” called the Cfx Marketplace. Rockstar Games originally announced back in 2023 that it had acquired Cfx.re, the modding team known for its work around Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Cfx.re is best recognized for running two major projects: FiveM and RedM, both heavily tied to multiplayer roleplay communities.
FiveM first launched in 2015, while RedM followed in 2019. Interestingly, in 2015 Rockstar Games and its partner Take-Two described the FiveM project as “an unauthorized alternate multiplayer server” containing code that enabled piracy, which ultimately resulted in three of its main creators being banned. But Rockstar’s stance on roleplay servers later shifted dramatically: in November 2022, the company updated its policy, allowing services like FiveM and RedM to operate as long as they remain non-commercial, avoid misuse of IP or trademarks, and do not interfere with Rockstar’s official online and multiplayer offerings.
Now, this newly launched “curated digital storefront” is intended to provide creators with an official space to share and sell their work, including props, scripts, maps, and “much more.” At launch, the marketplace is working with a curated roster of creators, which Rockstar says it collaborated with while building out the platform. Some of the featured mods are available for free, but certain bundles are priced at several hundred dollars.
The initiative is expected to roll out gradually in stages, with Rockstar saying the goal is to “ensure the best experience” for both creators and server owners.
