It’s possible we’re pointing in the wrong direction about Dispatch censorship, because Nintendo appears to be distancing itself from the whole thing. An apparent Nintendo of America representative has said it’s the development studio that decides what gets cut and what stays in.
On paper, Dispatch launching on Nintendo Switch 2 should be a win. We’re talking about one of 2025’s most anticipated games, which has already built a strong community on PS5 and PC, and is now trying to break into a new market on Nintendo’s hybrid console. Yet even with solid performance elsewhere, its Switch debut has been overshadowed by the censorship of certain sequences, especially those involving nudity, prompting Nintendo to reportedly issue a message denying responsibility.
According to HobbyConsolas, the first red flags appeared in late 2025, when Dispatch’s official artwork was altered on the U.S. eShop to tone down explicit elements. The real flashpoint, however, arrived with the game’s release on Switch 2, where censorship is enforced and cannot be disabled in the settings, unlike other versions.
The situation has fueled backlash across social media and has reportedly triggered a wave of refunds through the Nintendo eShop. To avoid taking the blame for something it doesn’t consider its decision, Nintendo clarified its stance after a player contacted them directly, insisting it had no role in choosing what to censor.
As Far As Anyone Can Tell, Nintendo Didn’t Decide The Dispatch Censorship
Even though the picture is still murky and neither side has released an official statement, someone from Nintendo of America technical support indicated that decisions about what appears in the game sit entirely with the developers. The Western branch also reportedly told players to reach out to AdHoc Studio, which is also acting as the game’s publisher, for any further clarification.
That leaves the next move with AdHoc Studio. The studio has already claimed the removed material doesn’t change the narrative or the core gameplay, while stressing that “each platform has different content criteria and proposals are evaluated individually.” Still, the lack of transparency about where the decision came from – and the fact many players only discovered it on launch day – has helped turn frustration into broader community resentment.
