Adglobe and Binary Haze Interactive‘s game is launching in just a few days, and it pulls from more than one genre.
Set deep below Tokyo, this survival puzzle action game demands clear thinking and split-second decisions where life and death can hinge on every moment. One day, high schooler Anne is on her way to meet friends when her subway car suddenly plunges through a fissure in the earth. When the 18-year-old comes to, she finds herself in a strange, unfamiliar land. Unbeknownst to Tokyo’s residents, an underground world lies beneath the city’s surface. Terrifying creatures that evolved from dinosaurs roam this unknown place – creatures that Anne nicknames Zinos. Trapped among them, any sound she makes might as well be a dinner bell. But Anne isn’t about to become Zino’s dinner! She’ll need her wits, her trusty smartwatch, and the support of her friends to escape – or she’ll become extinct!
Tokyo Scramble is a survival puzzle action game set deep underground. After an accident, Anne awakens to find herself in a network of subterranean caverns overrun by Zino, mysterious creatures that resemble dinosaurs. Stranded in this hostile environment, where only the strong survive, Anne must find a way back to the surface. As her journey continues, she comes face-to-face with a diverse and deadly array of Zino. With her sights set on the light filtering in from above, she must rely on her wits to flee, distract, and fight back however she can. Does she have what it takes to escape this prehistoric world alive?
Avoid enemies by moving quietly and staying out of sight. Use apps to distract and outsmart your opponents. Anticipate enemy attacks and counterattack using apps. Timing, quick thinking, and unwavering determination are the difference between life and death. Though the controls are simple, players must contend with the enemies’ senses of sight and hearing, manage Anne’s heart rate, and time their use of apps carefully in order to survive. This is an engaging teen drama about four friends and their dreams for the future, told across a series of text messages. There are elaborate and diverse environments to traverse that differ between episodes. There are unique musical themes for each new enemy.
“We envisioned something very different for the Nintendo Switch 2: a game that takes full advantage of the hardware’s GameShare and GameChat for up to four players yet is incredible for solo players too. The end result is Tokyo Scramble! Whether played alone or together, it is a journey through a Tokyo unlike anything ever seen before. We look forward to seeing how players help Anne escape the threat of the Zinos,” wrote producer and director Makoto Yamamoto in the press release.
Tokyo Scramble will be released digitally on February 11 for the Nintendo Switch 2. It will cost €/$30.
