Bluepoint Pitched Two Remakes Before Closure, and Sony Rejected Both

Bluepoint Games reportedly pitched two remake projects to Sony before the studio was shut down, but neither proposal moved forward. The team had outlined as many as four projects in total, including two remakes based on existing single-player PlayStation IPs.

With the shock of Sony‘s decision to close Bluepoint Games still fresh, the broader picture is starting to look even worse for PlayStation. The frustration is understandable, especially at a time when remakes still draw strong interest and the company has a deep catalog of older titles that could be revived.

Before the shutdown, Bluepoint was not simply waiting around. The studio pushed two separate remake pitches to Sony in an attempt to secure a next project, but both were turned down.

After the cancellation of the God of War live-service project, Bluepoint Games put together multiple new pitches and presented up to four titles in total. Two of those concepts were remakes built around existing single-player PlayStation franchises, yet the proposals were rejected because they were seen as weak commercial bets in the current market.

The repeated rejections appear to have deepened the studio’s internal problems. Pressure increased, morale declined, and several developers had already departed by the time the closure was finalized.

No official names have been attached to the shelved remake concepts, but obvious candidates from PlayStation‘s back catalog include Infamous, Sly Cooper, and MotorStorm. There is also speculation that the team may have pitched remakes of the Greek-era God of War trilogy.

One rejected remake may already be alive at another Sony studio

The most bitter twist is that one of the previously rejected remake pitches is reportedly now in development inside Sony at a different studio. If that is accurate, the company has effectively revisited the same idea after passing on it when Bluepoint proposed it.

That possibility makes the closure of Bluepoint Games look even harsher – the team may have had a viable remake on the table, but never got the chance to build it.
