MOVIE NEWS – AMC has officially ordered a fourth season of Interview With the Vampire, although the series will once again adopt a different title as it continues adapting Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Its next chapter will follow Queen of the Damned and place the rise of the ancient vampire Akasha at the centre of the story.

AMC’s horror drama Interview With the Vampire, adapted from Anne Rice’s 1976 novel, has been airing since 2022. The production never became an enormous ratings phenomenon, but it developed a remarkably enthusiastic and loyal audience while also receiving consistently excellent reviews from critics. For the third season, AMC renamed the series The Vampire Lestat to reflect its transition to the second novel in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. The finale of The Vampire Lestat aired on Sunday, July 19, and the network has now officially revealed what will follow it.

AMC has formally renewed Interview With the Vampire for a fourth season, although another title change makes the exact designation of the continuation less straightforward. It could reasonably be considered the second season of The Vampire Lestat, but it could just as easily be treated as the beginning of another distinct chapter. As with the previous season, the production will take its name from the Anne Rice novel it is adapting. When the series returns, it will be called Queen of the Damned, after the third volume in the Vampire Chronicles.

The “Queen of the Damned” named in the title is Akasha, played by Sheila Atim, the ancient vampire whom Lestat, portrayed by Sam Reid, guarded during part of the third season. Aaliyah previously brought the character to the screen in the 2002 film Queen of the Damned. Akasha awakens from a sleep lasting thousands of years after hearing Lestat’s music, then begins unleashing destruction across the world. AMC has also released a brief teaser in which the character offers an early indication of what she intends to do after her return.

“I say this to you now: do not let them shape you into the size of your cage,” Akasha says. “Women: get up, out of the ditches where they have thrown you and come with me now to where the men are gathered. And do what you have long longed to do: kill them all.”

The renewal was officially revealed during San Diego Comic-Con, where Sheila Atim appeared in person for the announcement. Cast members Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman and Eric Bogosian joined her at the event. Producers Mark Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch were also present for the presentation.

AMC executive Dan McDermott praised the creative team and the third season in a statement quoted by Variety. “In The Vampire Lestat, Mark, Rolin, Hannah and this extraordinary cast delivered an unforgettable season filled with propulsive storytelling that captivated the passionate and engaged fans of this franchise,” he said. “We can’t wait to continue the journey with Queen of the Damned, one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and watch our established and beloved characters confront Akasha with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance.”

AMC has not yet announced when Queen of the Damned will premiere. New seasons of Interview With the Vampire have so far arrived at two-year intervals. If the network continues following that schedule, the next episodes will probably debut on AMC and AMC+ sometime in 2028.
