TOP10 – Ginger cat pet owners, we know that orange tabbies are not only known to be extremely friendly, calm and kind to humans but also great actors! They have appeared in many films, and it’s no coincidence that the world’s most famous comic book cat, Garfield, is also a ginger cat. So here are the ten most famous orange tabbies.

Cheeto – Gone Girl
Animal lovers know that pets appearing on screen can be a risky situation, especially in a thriller like Deadpool. If nothing is sacred for female protagonist Amy, can a scruffy little ginger cat keep her safe from harm? Actually, yes, and for very good reason: Bleecker the cat (aka Cheeto) serves as an interesting barometer of how we should feel about Nick (Ben Affleck) or Amy (Rosamund Pike) in various scenes. It says a lot about each character how they relate – or don’t relate – to the cat. We don’t want to give away any more about Cheeto’s role in the film, only that he witnesses a key moment. Orangey – Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Orangey is the ginger cat from the 1961 film Morning at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn, a romantic comedy about a woman who wants to marry for money. Orangey was referred to as “the cat” throughout the film. However, the cat’s real name was Orangey. So when you read about the film, you will often see it referred to as Orangey just to avoid confusion, as the cat technically has no real name in the film. Believe it or not, there is more to Orangey’s filmography than just this movie. He appears in other films and TV series, including The Diary of Anne Frank, The Dick Van Dyke Show and others. His acting seems to have paid off, as Orangey has won two PATSY awards.

Spot – Star Trek Next Generation
Spot is from the sci-fi television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, which originally aired from 1987-1994. The series is set in the 24th century and follows the adventures of a Starfleet starship as it explores the Milky Way galaxy. One of the characters, Data, has a ginger cat named Spot. Believe it or not, Spot was played by five different ginger cats throughout the series. Arguably one of Spot’s most famous scenes is when Data recites the poem “Ode to Spot”, in which he expresses his love for the cat.

Skidmark – Fear the Walking Dead
Skidmark is from the television series Fear the Walking Dead (2015-present), which was originally a prequel series to The Walking Dead series but ended up being a parallel series to the original series. Fear the Walking Dead, like its sister series, is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies known as “walkers”. Skidmark belongs to Daniel Salazar’s character, and as well as keeping him company, he helps Daniel by leading nearby walkers away. Let’s face it! We all know cats would do just fine in a zombie apocalypse with claws, fangs, and excellent hunting skills.

Tonto – Harry & Tonto
Tonto is the main character in Harry & Tonto (1974), a film about an elderly widower and retired teacher, Harry, who is evicted from his New York apartment. He finally decides to travel across the country with Tonto’s cat. The cat even won a PATSY Award for his performance. By the way, here’s a little something we found for you. Art Carney, the actor who plays Harry, apparently confessed to the director that he doesn’t like cats. But Art ended up getting along with the cat and sticking with it. At the end of filming, Art wanted to buy Tonto, but the trainer wouldn’t sell him. We’re glad Tonto at least made a man cat-friendly.

Goose – Captain Marvel
Goose is from the Captain Marvel comic book series, which was later made into the movie that premiered in 2019. As a superhero movie, Goose is no ordinary cat. Spoiler alert! He’s actually a Flerken, which is an alien creature with huge tentacles coming out of its mouth.
Some fans may not know, but Goose was originally called Chewie in the comics. The filmmakers, however, decided to go with the Top Gun name in the movie because they thought it would tie him more closely to Captain Marvel’s past. Since the movie is set in the 90s, Captain Marvel’s “past” was the 80s when Top Gun was released. For all you Goose fans, get ready to see more of him soon, because Captain Marvel 2 is coming out next year (2022).
4 “Puss” – Puss in Boots
“Puss” (Puss) is a well-known fairy tale character and also a cat from the Shrek series, voiced by none other than Antonio Banderas. He first appeared in the 2004 film Shrek 2 (2004), where he became the sidekick and sidekick of Shrek and Donkey. His character “Puss” was inspired by the Italian fairy tale about a rogue cat. But Zorro and Indiana Jones also inspired the modern version of his character. Puss in Boots also appeared in his own spin-off film, a prequel to the Shrek franchise, called Puss in Boots. He later had a Netflix series called The Adventures of Puss in Boots, a prequel to Puss in Boots. Puss in Boots 2 is currently in production and is expected to be released this year (2022).

Garfield – Garfield films
Garfield is the world’s most famous ginger cat thanks to comic strips, and is “only” third on our list because the Garfield films themselves have unfortunately become rather weak and have been forgotten rather quickly. The comic strip was originally published as Jon in 1976 and became Garfield in 1978. The story revolves around the chubby orange tabby Garfield, his human owner Jon and his dog Odie. Garfield is known for being lazy, loves food (especially lasagna and coffee) and hates Mondays. Garfield has appeared in several TV shows and films and soon became a household name. Starring as the fat ginger cat, he also made many cartoon and animated films, and two feature films, both starring comedian Bill Murray, both of which grossed a good amount of money, but were a huge critical flop. The films were made using half live action, half animation technology.

Jonesy – Alien
Jonesy starred in the iconic space horror movie Alien (1979). For those who may not be familiar, the film is about a spaceship and its crew being attacked by an unknown but all the more bloodthirsty alien creature. Jonesy’s official job as the ship’s cat is to catch the rodents. But she is also a source of comfort to protagonist Ellen Ripley and the rest of the crew. Spoiler alert: Jonesy survives to make it to the sequel to Aliens (1986), after 57 years of hypersleeping. Does hypersleep exist in real life? Because I’m pretty sure that’s what our cats do. I’m just saying.

Bob – A Street Cat Named Bob
Bob played himself in A Street Cat Named Bob (2016), a film based on a true story about James Bowen, a homeless man in London who is addicted to heroin. While attending a recovery programme in 2007, James discovered Bob as an injuginger cat. James took him to a local charity vet to be treated, neutered and released. But when Bob kept coming back, James decided to adopt him. This heartwarming story also reveals how Bob inspired James to stay on the road to recovery. There were originally several novels (by James) about Bob and James’ relationship. Unfortunately, in real life, Bob died two years ago (in 2020). “Bob saved my life. It’s that simple.”
