The original shoot ‘em called Ikaruga up was a big success in Japan and has since become somewhat of a cult classic. Well its creator, Hiroshi Iuchi, has just announced that now he is working on a new, shoot ‘em up for the PlayStation 4 which is similar to Ikaruga.
Called “Ubusana”, all we know is that it’s another shooter, and that it’s from the same famous developer who brought us Ikaruga many years ago. Iuchi recently left his long-time developer Treasure for another Japanese developer called M2, which up until now has manly focused on re-mastering and re-releasing old games on new platforms.
On his personal blog, Iuchi says that he’s been helping out M2 on their other games while making Ubusana, and revealed only that the game is coming to the PlayStation 4 and will be a downloadable title. No release date was mentioned, but he did say that the game wouldn’t be released “for a while”.
Ikaruga was originally released on the Dreamcast in 2001, and has since been re-released on the Xbox 360, PC, GameCube, and even Android phones. It’s one of those games that keeps coming back and keeps getting re-released due to its strong fan base — especially as an arcade shooter, where it’s been the most popular in Japan for over a decade.
