PS Vita and PS4 versions will be not affected by the purchase, says Mojang

Many sites have been already predicting the purchase of Minecraft since the middle of last week. Microsoft has officially purchased the developer Minecraft: Mojang for a hefty sum. How hefty this sum was? According to the developers themselves, the studio was bought for the amount of $2.5 billion. That’s an awful lot of money indeed. With such a purchase, many questions are being raised by gamers, most importantly though, they want to know what this means for Minecraft on their favorite devices.

Immediately after the sale was announced, Mojang addred some concerns on their blogs, especially about Minecraft on platforms other than those of Microsoft. Mojang’s response follows:

“There’s absolutely no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop. Of course, Microsoft can’t make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future.”

Well, all this means that the fate of the recently released Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition and the soon-to-be-released Minecraft: PS Vita Edition should be safe and continue development. How this will affect the stream of content that these versions receive is a question for another day.

As for how this will affect Minecraft going forward, Mojang stated that Minecraft will “continue to evolve” but they aren’t aware of “specific plans for Minecraft’s future yet”.
