Activision has been proposing free upgrades of its Call of Duty games from current to next gen (or rather, from last gen to current gen, however you see it). Last year, Activision allowed a free upgrade for PS3 users to the PS4 version of Call of Duty, and this year, they’re offering the same deal.
If you buy the upcoming Call of Duty Advanced Warfare on the PS3 and later select to buy a PlayStation 4, you’ll be able to download the PS4 version for free. However, this only counts for the digital download version of the game.
The game will retain its license and you’ll be able to play online after upgrading from the PS3 to the PS4 version. However, you won’t be able to play both at the same time (obviously). Additionally, if you have a season pass or DLC, it will carry over from one version to the next.
Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is set in the 2050s, and features futuristic weapons and gadgets, such as jet-packs and more. The game will be released on November 4, 2014 on the PlayStation 4 and other platforms. The PS3 to PS4 upgrade offer is valid until March 2015.
