PREVIEW – Xseed Games is continuing the Onechanbara craze. The first game was created for the PS2 back in 2004. Since the the series has been on multiple platforms, but finally it’s returning to the PlayStation, to take us to a world filled with zombies. The gameplay is not a contender for the Game Of The Year, but anything can happen by the end of the summer….but it’s probably not a GOTY
As the old marketing goes, you can sell anything with a women. If Xseed Games went full proof with something, it is definitely this as we get four almost naked heroines. Big manga eyes, big tits, and long legs, all this four times. The Bikini Zombie killer team is ready for action.
Women in nothing
While the proportions in our characters are there, it’s not in the gameplay. It seems that the publisher only wanted to sell Onechambara Z2: Chaos with looks, and boobs. There is no detail to the environment or to the enemies, unlike to the four women. The levels are 100% linear, no way to diverge from the routine, if we would do try to do that, well invisible wall will stop us. Enemies lack in variety after the first few levels, besides the main bosses.
Enganese
The previews for this game are weird as they seem to mix in English and Japanese language. Hopefully the game will be fully translated. As the mission summary, items, and 90% of the descriptions are written in Kanji. The remaining 10% is in English, for example the difficulty options, and other single words. Due to this the game’s larger part is spent figuring out the weapons ,and the entire gameplay.
Once upon a when ?
The story is not a breakthrough, no wonder since Xseed Games decided to emphasize the girls looks instead, and not the paper thin plot. The story is what it looks, nothing more, nothing less. Everything is one linear level, where at the end we get an arena with bosses. In the menus between levels we get to upgrade our weapons, and equip jewelry for certain passive skills. As this is a hack n’ slash game, constantly upgraded the weapons is needed, but nothing else was told by the publisher. One tiny mechanic in combat is the blood meter.
It shows the level of durability for our weapons, and the higher it is, the less damage it will do to our enemies. Our weapon will recharge if we do not use it, or switch to using another girl. This will be required after awhile, so if a weapon is overused, or a character has too much damage, with one press of a button we can switch characters. Switching is also advised to use some of the more complicated dual combos, also it’s nice to see the touchpad getting some practicality. The final strikes against bosses within QTE can be used to execute with the touchpad.
Hands above the sheets….
All in all Onechambara Z2: Chaos is an average hack n’ slash, that is a bit dull, and nothing to talk about in terms of graphics. It has room to improve, the combat can be a mess, due to the hordes of zombies, because of this we don’t really see where we are at times. Although even if we did not have too many enemies, the overdose from attack effects would still blind us from all the various moves. Hopefully the game will be more polished once it hits the PlayStation 4 in autumn, and the naked truth will be revealed
