DICE’s game, Star Wars: Battlefront, which will hit us in November, is still looking a quite promsing game. Electronic Arts thinks the same, having had set a high sales expectation for this game, which will only have multiplayer in store for us. We also know about the PlayStation 4 being the lead development platform too. It’s all fine and dandy, but Digital Foundry has published a framerate-testing video to show us, how the E3 alpha version of Battlefront is running currently.
The resolution follows suit of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline: the game runs on 1600×900, with a tint of post-process anti-aliasing. We can’t really expect motion blur here, as Battlefield 4 had that… but only in campaign, which Battlefront is confirmed not to have. Also, the number of maximum players was cut from Battlefield 4’s 64 to just 40 in Battlefront.
The framerate is the question. We can pretty much confirm that DICE is unlikely to be able to run the game on 60 frames per second even on 900p resolution, in fact, it’s going to run between 40 and 50. The framerate can dip into thirties in some heavy action. Although there’s V-Sync, it seems that there isn’t much improvement after Battlefield 4, unless DICE manages to find some hidden resources to make the game run better…
