You might remember Grow Home: it was the first Vote to Play’s winner, elevating it up to the September line-up of PlayStation Plus free games, opening itself up nicely to the subscribers of the service around the world. According to the French developer/publisher Ubisoft, this was the fastest downloaded title, as it managed to get over two million downloads in the first week of launch.
That would be quite alright, but we don’t really understand the stance of the French company on this one. If your product is available for free, of course there will be a bigger demand for it, and given the big subscriber base of PlayStation Plus, no wonder your title is receiving several hundred thousand downloads.
If Ubisoft can pull it off with an AAA ttle as well (maybe Assassin’s Creed Syndicae in the end of October?), then yes, we would appreciate their efforts, but in this case, it’s more of their ego growing announcements. We wonder how the game would perform, if it was actually a paid game. Would they announce that Grow Home performed X thousand downloads?
