Horizon Zero Dawn: Will it be more than a game?

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) thinks that Horizon Zero Dawn has the potential to license it and not just leave it as a videogame. That means it might be licensed to be a brand with toys, collectibles, apparel, accessories and publishing over the course of 2016 and 2017. They really believe strongly in this game, and to think of it, it has potential. It’s being developed by Guerrilla Games, who will work on it as a breath of fresh air after all these Killzone games in the past decade.

But the overwhelming positivity might backfire – our first similar thought was Rise of the Robots, which ended up getting a book, and there were plans for a movie, a cartoon series and many more. Don’t rush licensing just yet – what if the game comes out and it gets 6.5/10 reviews from multiple reviewers? If it does end up as a great game, then sure, go ahead… but now, we just think it’s just too optimistic.

Don’t waste money on this – it’d be a huge failure for both Sony and SCEE. After all, we didn’t see any merchandise about Bloodborne, and that was a great game!

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
