Guerrilla Games announced that their upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn will not have a multiplayer component. They also explained the reason as well. CD Projekt RED showed that you don’t have to develop a multiplayer segment to your game to be successful – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was one of the best games of last year and it only had the single player!
Mark Norris, Horizon’s executive producer talked about this in his interview on IGN Latino America: „There are questions as to why a multiplayer will not do. The reality is that we are putting together a new IP. We are making a new franchise for the first time in 10 years and what we want to do is improve the experience for the player. When you get to face these machines as Eloy, with this character, who is the real star of the story and everything that happens, have this connection with her. But what happens when you take the elements of multiplayer? Do you play as a supporting character? How does that work?”
To be fair, we agree with him. The devs should rather create a game with an excellent single player campaign that can easily take over 10-20 hours, even if you can’t play online with someone else. Last year, Geralt pulled it off, let’s see if Eloy can make it happen in 2016!
