Developers tend to leave their former games behind to start working on something new. Some of them go against this notion, though – it’s a very honorable choice of them. This time around, a bigger dev team went back to take care of an older title!
The last time Blizzard Entertainment updated Diablo II, it was in 2011. Almost four and a half years later, they returned to their cult-RPG despite it being over 15 years old. Despite not adding new content to the second Diablo game with the 1.14a patch, they managed to make the game run on modern operating systems without bugs and glitches. Mac-owners can also rejoice: the new patch allows the game to run even on the newest OSX operational systems.
We’re happy to see Blizzard take care of their game that was made in 2000 – this should be a move to be copied by others.
The patch note is the following:
„It’s been a long time coming, but today we’re releasing 1.14a for Diablo II.
This update focuses on system glitches introduced by modern operating systems. In related news, you can finally retire those old Mac PowerPCs. Included with the update is a shiny new installer for OSX.
We’ve also begun working to improve our cheat-detection and hack-prevention capabilities. There’s still work to be done, but we’re making improvements every day.
There is still a large Diablo II community around the world, and we thank you for continuing to play and slay with us. This journey starts by making Diablo II run on modern platforms, but it does not end there. See you in Sanctuary, adventurers.”
