Sony published their 2015 fiscal earnings report, which also mentioned updated results for the PlayStation 4 as well. The PS4 – as expected – has hit the barrier of 40 million sales, which makes it the best-selling current generation console against the Xbox One and the Wii U.
The PlayStation 4 is also the best-selling PlayStation model, too: even the PS2 was able to sell 33 million in the same timeframe. (The PS3 had 22, and the PS1 had just 13 million sold in a little more than two years.) Xbox One has an estimated 20 million sales while the Wii U is at around 13 million. The PS4 leads by a landslide.
Sony‘s risk that they pledged to lose money for the first part of the PlayStation 4‘s life cycle, turned out to be a good thing. After 2015, Sony finally managed to end the year with a profit, partially due to having the manufacturing costs of the PS4 lowered.
At this rate, the PlayStation 4 will hit the 50 million mark by the end of 2016.
