Family Guy is one of the flagship programs on FOX‘s lineup – the series has been presented to multiple countries in the world. Peter and the crew made the news again, although not in a positive light this time around. The scandal revolves around a gameplay video on YouTube.
Konami‘s basketball game. Double Dribble, launched on the NES in the autumn of 1987 in North America. In the latest episode of Family Guy, Run, Chris, Run, Peter and Cleveland Brown sits down to play a match of Double Dribble. Peter starts to abuse a bug that allows him to pull „corner threes” that allow him to outscore his friend, who tried to play fair and square.
While this scene looks mostly harmless, YouTube/Google’s problematic copyright system steps in to ruin things here: FOX used the gameplay clip without permission, and after the Family Guy episode had aired, YouTube removed the original with a copyright strike!
Fortunately, Seth McFarlane got informed about this situation, so the story ended happily: the video sharing website reinstated the original clip. You can compare the animated series with the original footage below the article.
At least McFarlane didn’t leave the situation unresolved. Fair play on his end.
Hey Twitter: FYI I don’t run Fox, and I’m away from FG working on a new show. However I will look into the Double Dribble issue.

The basketball clip is back up. Was caused by an automated notification by YouTube. You can put down your pitchforks.
