The French company’s financial results aren’t perfect, but they aren’t in a monetary slump to be worried.
The Division, Rainbow Six Siege, and The Crew all have ten million players each, although in the case of the racing game, September’s Ubisoft Club free giveaway might have played a role. Still, the monthly active users have increased year-on-year by 44%. The engagement also raised by 51% since the 1.4 patch in The Division.
However, Watch Dogs 2 did not meet the expectations – as the game’s console launch is still eleven days away, we’re talking about the pre-order numbers. The game underperformed in this area, although Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, has added that Far Cry 3 had a similar result, and he stated that pre-orders aren’t crucial for a game’s success. They also consider the consistent releases of open-world games a success when compared to other publishers.
Ubisoft has outstanding results with digital sales – out of their 281.4 million euro revenue, 72% (!), 202.6 million came via games sold digitally. The list is led by the PS4 (33%), followed by the X1 (23%) and the PC (22%). Quoting Guillemot, „Our excellent performance in the second quarter as well as the sharp improvement in our profitability during the first six months of the fiscal year are proof that we have gotten both our digital strategy and our approach to multiplayer games right.”
Perhaps the new financial report will make the investors relaxed that the company is in a good position – well, until Vivendi takes the steering wheel out of Guillemot‘s hands…
