Activision promises changes for this year.
The company’s financial earnings mentioned the FPS franchise, which has been an annual title for a decade as well. Last year, Infinite Warfare was already making the situation a little risky, as its „space setting didn’t resonate” with its players, plus „it wasn’t the success” that Activision hoped for previously. It didn’t reach the goal then, which was bound to happen: Infinity Ward’s game’s reveal trailer has quickly become one of the most disliked videos on YouTube.
The lack of success made Activision bring Sledgehammer Games’ 2017 Call of Duty „back to its roots,” where „traditional combat will once again take center stage.” As Call of Duty launched almost fourteen years ago as a World War II shooter, Activision might be taking the franchise back to the past, which might not be a good timing: Battlefield went back to the first World War already.
