Avalanche Software got a big bag of cash.
Nordisk Film has invested ten million dollars into Avalanche in return for a minority ownership. You may know Avalanche for its games such as the Just Cause trilogy, or Mad Max (2015), and with this cash inflow, they can now develop and self-publish their following projects. (Just Cause was published by Square Enix, while Mad Max got into stores with the help of Warner Bros.) As the developer team has a proprietary open-world engine in their possession (called Apex), they don’t have to spend money on licensing something like Unreal Engine 4.
Nordisk Film is a leading film producer/distributor, and cinema operator company, owned by Danish Egmont – they founded Nordisk Film Games to support Nordic gaming studios. As Avalanche is located in Sweden, it all makes sense.
Let’s hope they will make good use of the money.
