DFC Intelligence, an analyst firm, has predicted how many Microsoft consoles could be sold by 2021.
You can read their report here . It says that in four years, the Xbox One could reach 63 million lifetime sales, and 17 million of it could be the Xbox One X. In eight years, 63 million isn’t sounding that bad, but if we consider that the PlayStation 4 almost reached the same amount in just three and a half years (!), the prediction is already lighted differently.
„Xbox One X is an expensive system designed to appeal to a fairly narrow demographic of gamers who want high-quality graphics but do not want to spend money on a high-end PC. The challenge is that is a fairly small addressable market, even as sales of 4k television sets start to soar. Both the Nintendo Switch or Sony PlayStation 4 offers a very strong value proposition that consumers seem to be flocking towards.
Many of the exclusives are fairly minor indie titles that will probably not take advantage of the enhanced graphics features of the system. Furthermore, the leap from 1080 to 4k resolution is simply not as revolutionary as the previous movement from standard definition to high definition,” David Cole, a DFC analyst says.
DFC also predicts 102 billion (!) dollars of sales in the entire video game market industry, which is an eight percent year-on-year improvement. If the Xbox One reaches 63 million in eight years, what would the PlayStation 4’s result be? 110 million?
