Nintendo is on the right path to success.
The data comes from 2ch, which was also published by Kotaku. All we have to say is dominance… in Japan, at least. How much, you ask?
In twenty-six weeks (half a year), the Nintendo Switch sold 1.5 million copies in Japan. That doesn’t sound much at first sight, but the PlayStation 4 managed to sell only 665 thousand. In fact, Sony needed 69 weeks (!) to reach 1.5 million in the local market!
GamesIndustry explains this result with the fact that Japan likes gaming on the go, meaning the iOS/Android duo, as well as the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS, is successful. The Switch is portable, but the PlayStation 4 isn’t, and it is a key selling point for the audience.
We’ll see in October where Nintendo stands with sales worldwide, but we can now clearly say that the PlayStation 4 got a new rival, and the situation will be a bit more tough for Sony in November when the Xbox One X arrives.
