Atari and Nintendo both ran into disputed territories. How?
Ataribox creator and general manager, Feargal Mac told VentureBeat that the console will have a unique AMD CPU and Radeon graphics chip, plus a Linux operating system, capable of running PC games. However, he added that the Ataribox, which will cost 250-300 dollars, will be on the same level as a mid-range PC. Atari will launch crowdfunding on Indiegogo this autumn before the Spring 2018 release window.
Round two is Nintendo‘s. They are ramping in a ton of money with the Switch and the SNES Classic. With the latter console, Digital Foundry was curious to see what it has under the hood. Their result was somewhat disappointing. The SNES Classic has the same hardware as the NES Classic to not have higher manufacturing costs. This lack of change also means that people capable of modifying the console could put more games on the console, as was the case with the NES mini last year…
So, in short, we have a PC Atari and a redesigned NES Classic hardware…
