After Disney Infinity, Disney leaves another game behind in the dust.
This time, the virtual Grim Reaper came for Marvel Heroes, which is Disney’s Diablo-styled free-to-play game. The reason why it’s shutting down is that Marvel Entertainment (owned by Disney) has ended its business arrangement with Gazillion Entertainment. Here’s what the statement sent to GameSpot says: „We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”
Marvel Heroes launched on PC in 2013, followed by the Omega version on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this year. Kotaku reports that Gazillion has not provided updates or communication recently, and a current and former employee said that a few people had been told that they don’t have to come to work this week.
This story is how this MMO action RPG’s history goes down: with a whimper. The closure makes the recent console launch somewhat pointless… but have a look at it, though.
