One of the IDC analysts believes that the PlayStation 4 might reach the heights of the PlayStation 2.
GamingBolt asked IDC’s research director for gaming, VR, and AR, Lewis Ward, about his predictions. Regarding the next generation consoles’ launch, he said: „Right now I think PS5 and the next-gen Xbox will arrive in 2021, but that’s really just a tentative placeholder in my forecast.” (Which means they might arrive sooner than 2021 – the Xbox 360 dared to launch early in 2005, and it helped the console in its earlier years.)
Regarding the PlayStation 4, Ward believes that the console could reach 100 million sales in 2019, or even earlier than that – it’s still far from the PS2’s 157 million sales, but it’d still be an impressive result by Sony nevertheless.
We’ll still have to wait a year for the next consoles to be announced and revealed. Until then, though, we’re facing an interesting fight between the Nintendo Switch (which proved itself to be outselling the PS4 in several cases), and the PlayStation 4, and if the Xbox One (X) could bring Microsoft into the Japanese marques’ fight.
