The PlayStation Network had several outage periods last week. We might just have learned why they happened.
Yesterday, we encountered a lot of PlayStation Network errors (again), and it had nothing to do with our Internet connections – Sony’s servers got crippled, which was partially possible due to two major games (Dragon Ball FighterZ and Monster Hunter World) launching this Friday. However, Sony never explains what happened with their servers, and checking the status page of the network, everything seems to be okay right now.
However, on Twitter, someone, possibly part of the PoodleCorp hacker group (who took down the PlayStation Network a few times in the past), took the blame for the attacks. He used the good old DDoS attack, which rendered Sony’s servers unusable. He also seemingly attacked other services, too: the Twitter feed mentions Discord, Twitter, and Netflix as well.
It seems like there’s no January without PlayStation Network outages. In 2016, we recall them happening every week…
